#1 HELLO WORLD

SSSSSSS is in the opening stages of making a video game. It’s early days, so logistics are scarce. But ideas are plentiful. This devblog will chronicle how we go about making this game, keeping you up to date on our progress, providing an archive of the game’s development, and hopefully building our audience.
We can’t tell you much about the plot just yet, but we can say that it will be a first-person puzzle adventure game, taking place inside the world of dreams. Levels will contain multiple pathways leading to different worlds, giving players the chance to think outside of the box in order to find everything. When the exit seems obvious, be assured that there are others hidden away, requiring players to forget what they know about the real world and embrace the illogicality of dreams.
For this game, we want to embrace a retro feel, taking design cues from the PlayStation games of old. Colourful environments, low-poly models, simple platforming, and conveying emotion through more than fancy graphics are all key tenets of our design philosophy. Our approach will be reminiscent of the vivid dreams of childhood, with the unrealistic, surreal art style painting an unsettling yet immersive world. Old-style graphics can be spooky and strange, and we plan to embrace that. A minimalist art style will also give us more opportunity to focus on developing a diverse range of worlds with unique assets and emotions.
The game is being developed on the Unity engine, slated for a PC release. Console releases may come in time, but we can’t guarantee anything at this stage. There is no release date yet as the scope of the game is constantly expanding, but we will ideally have a playable demo by the (Australian) summer of 2020.
